I just wanted a drink and a quiet night. Didn't really bargain for this! Walked into an Irish bar next to my hotel, ordered a beer, and asked if they had live music. The waitress said the band canceled, so I volunteered to “sing a couple of songs for you.” She thought I was kidding.. Ten minutes later, I’m on stage, plugging into their PA, singing to a packed house of complete strangers. Took a song for people to get into it, singing, clapping, dancing, sending me beers! By the end of the night, everyone was on their feet, they wouldn’t let me go, passed a hat around and got me some money, and they even sang the national anthem for me. Last week I heard @hari_marar72 on his @codetoculture interview talking about Opus being an incredible place (thank you, sir 🙏). I still get told that, a lot —even now, 20 years later. And then today… I stumbled upon this video. Such nostalgia. (No, this is not an “Opus is coming back” post by any stretch of the imagination. I love my life far too much for that.) But to think—I did this every single Sunday night for almost 10 years. And yes, every Sunday was like this. Shots at the bar. Drinks by the bucket (shudder). @martindsouzaofficial and @johnsonlpatrick warming up the crowd… and by the time I took over, it was nothing short of a riot. It’s not something you can explain. And I don’t want to trivialise what it was by calling it a “vibe.” This was one of many nights with @manovirajkhosla and the @royalchallengers.bengaluru boys. With @abdevilliers17 owning it like only he can, and the boys jumping right in. I think I can hear @marklazaro, at some point, I call for @sheridanbrass1, @behramsiganporia jumping on, @joshselvaraj is busy flashing at someone, @issartanya is being harassed by… The video quality is absolute shyte But #iykyk.
